Changes to NECA Dues Structure

Dear colleague,

The car washing industry in New England is changing. Traditionally a family-oriented industry of small operators, we are experiencing increased mergers and acquisitions, as well as growing interest by private equity firms from outside the region. Many retiring car washers have sold their facilities to existing companies, reducing the number of independent operators, and many well-known industry partners have come under the roof of larger competitors.

What has this meant for the New England Carwash Association, recognized as one of the more progressive and active of regional associations? In recent years, we have provided a strong, singular voice for our industry. We are both heard and listened to. We have expanded our social media presence exponentially to dispel misinformation and drive business to our member washes. We continue to provide valuable information and an invaluable professional network through our publications, social media, meetings and events. Most of this has been funded using the NECA savings.

We always look to grow our Association but new car wash and vendor company development has not kept pace with consolidations. There is a smaller pool of car washing companies as well as suppliers to support our initiatives on behalf of the industry and prepare for our members’ and the industry’s future needs. To respond, the NECA leadership formed a task force to review our membership structure which has remained the same for decades: one dues amount (currently $275) for all members, regardless of size of their operations and staff or the nature of their businesses.

The task force recommendations were developed after researching the membership structure of other associations. They developed financial projections taking into account potential membership numbers, increasing costs and the overall long-term, financial well-being of the Association. Over a period of months, the proposal was reviewed by current and past leadership as well as others who are active member company representatives.

Beginning with the 2023 membership year (invoices will be mailed in late November), the following membership dues’ structure will go into effect:

  • An operator member company’s dues will be $300 for the first site per annum then $50 for each additional car wash site per annum within our region (MA, NH, ME, RI and VT).
  • An industry partners’ dues will be $500 per annum.

These approved changes will help to ensure that the New England Carwash remains a strong organization, able to provide the quality of services for which it is known and respected.

Sincerely,

Letter
