We are very sad to report that on December 26, 2021 after fighting a prolonged battle with cancer, Charles J “Chuck” Delaney Jr. (February 14th, 1944 - December 26th, 2021) passed away at Care Dimensions in Lincoln, MA with his wife of 46 years Sandra (Laime) Delaney by his side.
Chuck was born in Cocoa Beach, Florida and raised in Newton, MA, where he spent his summers life guarding at Crystal Lake. Upon graduating from high school, he attended Providence College and received an MBA from Boston College. He met his wife Sandra in Stowe, Vermont in 1971 and they were married in 1975, together raising a daughter (Meaghan), and three sons (Matthew, Michael, and Mark).
In 1976, Chuck founded the Allston Car Wash, which over the years went on to receive numerous trade and local accolades, including being recognized as a multi-year “Best of Boston” winner. With a strong dedication to the industry, Chuck served as president of the New England Car Wash Association in 2001 and 2002, preceded by a decade of NECA service as a Director, Treasurer and Vice President. He built a thriving generational business that is now managed by his two sons, Michael and Mark. He was known as a dedicated advocate and supporter of his many employees and for his long-standing support of the community, especially the Franciscan Children’s Hospital in Brighton.
Throughout his life, Chuck was an avid New England sports fan, rooting for the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots, but especially taking pride in the athletic pursuits of his family. From little league to high school baseball, basketball, soccer, and tennis; Chuck never missed a game or a match. From baseball at Babson to women’s basketball at Harvard and tennis at Johns Hopkins, he was always there rooting in the stands, yelling at the officials, or bragging to others about “his” team’s many achievements. He loved to play tennis, golf, and ski, watch sports, and tell stories of his life.
Predeceased by his father Charles Delaney Sr, mother Margaret “Peg” Delaney, sisters Anne Hawkins, Maureen Delaney, and Margaret “Peggy” Delaney.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Delaney, daughter Meaghan (Adam), sons Matthew (Johanna), Michael, and Mark, brother Brian Delaney, sister Kathy Delaney-Smith, and four grandchildren (Madeline, Mason, McKinley, and Chase).
While he truly will be missed, everyone will remember Chuck for his ever-present sense of humor, strong work ethic, and unconditional love for family and friends.
